Comparison of risk for institutionalization for patients with and without Lead Investigator: Courtney O'Neill Institution : Medical Univ of South Carolina E-Mail : oneillc@musc.edu Proposal ID : 543 Proposal Description: The main objective of this project is to understand the diabetes treatments represented among normal, cognitively impaired, and individuals with Alzheimer???s disease within the NACC database. The goal of this project is to examine institutionalization rates among normal individuals, cognitively impaired individuals, and individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer???s disease. Specifically, the research team will conduct a multiple logistic regression analysis to assess risk factor related to institutionalization rates for individuals with and without diabetes treatment as well as a time to institutionalization analysis (survival/proportional hazards regression). The research team will use this dataset to examine the historical effect of diabetic medications for signals that diabetic medications slow cognitive decline. The research team will evaluate progression to cognitive impairment, progression to Alzheimer???s disease, progression to institutionalization in correlation to diabetes pharmaceutical treatment, and associations with activities of daily living.
